BBQ-N-INK

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

bbqtat2

This past Sunday, we started the day off at the shop with a delicious barbecue.  We had a packed house with friends and family that came from all over the world.  We had our friends in from Denmark, Australia, and Japan enjoying some of the great foods we were grilling.  Everyone was having a blast enjoying eachother’s company.

Once we had a bite to eat, we got back into tattooing mode.  Luckily our boy “Danger,” or as he was known that weekend, “The Grill Man,” was here spreading some cheer and entertaining our good friends.

The Shop apprentices were amazed with the pieces that were done.  They were watching Jose carefully without blinking for a single moment so they could capture every single technique he was using.

Here’s another inspiration by the enigmatic Pint.  He inspires many of us at the shop and people who don’t know about him leave the shop with amazement after we show them his stunning work.  This will not be the last piece you’ll see us do that’s truly inspired by him.

Our boy Bobby from Tribal was in the house for some work as well.  He came in asking for an angel with a cross and Jose delivered.    The process was long and agonizing but Bobby took it like a champ. It was our esteemed pleasure to have him here and are very honored to have him sport Lowrider ink.

Until Next Time.

I’M NOT FAT…I’M FLUFFY!

Friday, July 16th, 2010

July 12 started off as an ordinary day at the shop.  Being a Monday, a lot of us still had a bit of jet lag from the weekend that preceded us.  Clients walked in and out of the shop, very content with the work they were getting, some their first.  What our customers didn’t know was that the world famous comedian Gabriel Iglesias was going to stop by with the homie Memo Loco who was being tatted by Gustavo Lopez.  Once Gabriel showed up, the vibe in the shop became electric, and our customers eyes lit up with disbelief.

“Oh my God, you’re Gabriel Iglesias!” commented a client with a huge smile on his face.  He immediately jumped off his chair to shake the man’s hand.  Gabriel extended his hand without hesitation and shook his fan’s hand.  Everyone crowded around him asking him questions, getting to know him, and most of all getting entertained by his jokes.

Everyone soon grabbed whatever they could find so he could give them some autographs.  Pieces of paper, bandanas, dvds, it didn’t matter, they just wanted his autograph.

Gabriel’s personality on stage and off stage are the same.  The man bleeds comedy.  Here he is joking around, pretending he’s behind bars.

When Gabriel stepped into Jose’s office, he joked around with him and Jose asked him to sign his door that many artists have signed before including Jack Rudy, Estevan Oriol, Team Pacquiao, Sick Jacken of The Psycho Realm, as well as many respected artists.

Everyone anxiously waited to get their picture taken with him and did not turn anyone away.  He made sure whoever wanted to take a picture with him got at least 3.  He’s very photogenic and loves the camera.  Tattoo artists Gustavo Lopez and Johnny Opina had their picture taken with him, as well as Johnny’s client.  Shop Apprentices Angel Antunez and Jose Villa were next in line, followed by the homie Twinks.  He also gave us a huge shout-out that can be seen in the video below.  Check it out.

The rest of the night was insane.  Mikey Doodles did a quick sketch of Gabriel and everyone gathered around him while he drew it.  He gave it to Gabriel and he loved it so much that he’s going to have it framed.

It was a hell of a night filled with laughter and great memories that the entire shop and our friends and clients will never forget.

Until next time.

PAIN

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Why do we suffer under the wrath of a needle?  Is it the love of the art, or the bond between an artist and a friend?  Everyone has there own answer to the question.  Wether it is because they want to have something on their body that means something very dear to them, such as a parent’s name, a relative’s portrait who’s no longer with them, or even a friendship tattoo.  We’ve all endured countless hours of pain in order to be able to express the way they feel about ourselves and to let the tattoo express what it means to us.

bb-in-pain

We come into tattoo shops day in and day out with the anxiety of getting our first tattoo.  What we don’t realize is how much some of them will hurt.  Do we let that stop us? Not at all.  For our boy Boston Bob, pain is no stranger.  He’s carries some of Jose’s most amazing work all over his body and he’s had to deal with the pain and suffering of getting them.  After all the torture, Boston Bob always seems to come back for more.

“Pain is temporary.  It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place.  If I quit, however, it lasts forever.”

– Lance Armstrong

We would also like to send a huge shoutout to the homie Pint.  Without Pint’s work, The inspiration for the above piece would not have come together so smoothly.   His work inspires a lot of us here at Lowrider as well as the many people he has inspired all over the world. He has no idea on what kind of impact he’s made in the tattoo community.
